Nursery design is an important part of having a baby.  Creating a welcoming environment for your new baby is such a rewarding part of the process of having children.  Designing a nursery and filling its walls with special keepsakes is something every expecting mother wants to check off her list.

Why This Nursery Design Means So Much To Me

Not only are we having our first girl (if you missed the gender reveal party click here) but also, my pregnancy this time around is completely different than the last.

Health Problems During Pregnancy

Some of you may have already read previous posts where I’ve talked about my health issues, particularly during pregnancy, but for those of you who haven’t, I will fill you in…

Years ago when I was pregnant with my son, I had HORRIBLE vertigo that kept me homebound for the last 4.5 months of the pregnancy.  I had an inner ear condition called a Perilymphatic Fistula (PLF for short) that was leaking spinal fluid into my inner ear and required surgery to fix when my son was just 10 weeks old.  It was by far the hardest time of my life.  Not only were the physical symptoms of dizziness and nausea hard to bare, but the emotional stress of not being able to participate in life that was required of me during that time was devastating.  I had to rely heavily on my friends and husband to do the things I had looked forward to doing for so long, in anticipation of becoming a mom i.e. nursery decorating, shopping for baby clothes and gear, nesting, etc.  Not to mention, the vertigo symptoms got so bad, I had to go on medical leave from work, (I was a PreK teacher at the time) disappointing everyone ….parents, my students, co-workers, myself.   IT WAS AWFUL!!!!

At that time, I honestly didn’t think my body would ever be able to endure another pregnancy again so I really thought that preparing a baby nursery and all of the exciting things that go along with having a baby were one and done for me.  The fact that I am able to share this post with you today, overwhelms me to the point of happy tears, to say the least!  So if I seem a little nutty over wallpaper, paint, lamps, and bedding, you’re probably right, I am.  The little things in life I took for granite before, are now the big things I am so thankful to be able to do and I want to celebrate them as much as I can!

Miscarriage

Fast forward to 2.5 years after having our son, we decided that I was feeling strong enough to try and have another baby.  We knew it was risky but I was doing so much better and we REALLY wanted to give our son a sibling.  Well plans don’t always work out like we want them to.  At 9 weeks we found out that I had what’s called a “blighted ovum”.  Long story short, we miscarried and had to start all over.  This was a devastating experience to say the least but everything works out the way God wants it to.

I am so thankful for this journey God has led me on, the good the bad and the ugly.  I feel so blessed to be where I am today, despite all that I’ve been through.  So many of my friends and people I see on Instagram and blogs struggle with fertility and would probably give anything to trade places with me, even on my worst day.  Regardless of my circumstances from day to day, I am very thankful for all of my blessings.

    1. Aww thank you Jennifer!!! The dresser actually came like that and I used French Linen by Annie Sloan for the mirror and it was an exact match! LOVED your baby girl’s nursery. Thank you so much for teaming up with me to do this post.

  3. Marci,
What a beautiful post and gorgeous nursery. Every photo I would think, “Oh, that’s my favorite part. And then the next photo, I would think, Oh, that’s my favorite part!!” Those books on the wall, that rug, those lights, that pouf, that wallpaper and your sweet dress!! It’s magical and lovely. My mom always told me to decorate a nursery not just for the baby, but for the mother and you have the perfect combination! Sweet and elegant!
