Hello everyone!
I hope you had a lovely Memorial Day weekend. If you are following along in order of the Joyful Summer Home Tour, you just came from Stephanie’s house over at Belle Amour Blog. Stephanie has one of those cute little letter boards that are so popular right now and she changed the wording for something very summer appropriate. If you missed her stop on the tour, you can see it by clicking here.
Thank you for joining me on this fun home tour. I don’t know about you but this year has FLOWN by so far for me! I can’t believe that it’s already summer break here and we have another school year under our belts. I feel like we celebrated Christmas and made our New Year’s resolutions just the other day!
Today I’m sharing our back patio with you that I spruced up for the summer. Last year I found some great outdoor pillows from Target in blue and orange and decided that this year I would add to the same theme. The inside of our home is very neutral so I really enjoy adding color when I can, and outside on the back patio was the perfect place to do it! I’ve included a full source list and links to each product below. Hope you enjoy…

So our back patio is a true “labor of love”. It use to be a solid patch of grass with no covering from the sun and zero seating for entertaining. We couldn’t afford to hire a company to come out and build what we wanted/needed so like any young, dumb, determined couple, we built it ourselves! One day I will show you a before and after of this space, but let me just tell you right now, you won’t believe your eyes. We worked ALL summer long (ya why we picked summer to do this project I’ll never know) all 90 days of Mid May, June, July, and half of August excavating, leveling dirt, laying pavers, digging holes, renting equipment, shopping materials, designing, building, and installing the pergola, etc., etc. It was the hardest and longest DIY project we’ve ever completed that almost ended in divorce! But, it turned out very nice and we did save a lot of money doing it ourselves! The table you see in the middle, my husband built using leftover pieces of wood from the pergola for the legs and an old barn door we found at an antique yard for the top. I painted the top/door to match the gray pavers with some old paint we had laying around the house.
We love this outdoor space now that its finished. I knew from the beginning that I wanted to have couches out here versus a dining table because I wanted it to be super comfortable! In the Spring and even during the warm Winters I can easily lounge around and take a nap on these couches! I am pleasantly surprised how well the wicker and cushions have held up over the last 6 years.
Well that’s it for today. I hope you enjoyed this stop on the tour. Tomorrow, Hayley from A House With Books will be sharing her beautiful home with touches of summer goodness. Check the schedule below to see the rest of the amazing women who have opened up their homes for us and anyone you may have missed!
