Ideas for your Master Bedroom

If you follow me on Instagram you’ve heard me say that I have neglected our master bedroom since we moved into our house 9 years ago.  I had it painted one day while I was at work, came home, wasn’t crazy about how dark the color turned out, and we’ve been stuck with it ever since.  In fact, I have only blogged about it 1 time when I painted our dark bedroom set several years ago and that’s it!  If you missed that post you can read about it by clicking here.   So this year, I decided it’s time to give us the master bedroom we deserve!!!  Since the day we moved into our house, I have spent all of my time and home decor budget on our kid’s nurseries and our common areas like the kitchen nook, where we spend most of our time.  Well all of that changes, starting today!!!  Here is my design board for this project….

MY PLAN

  • create an accent wall with wallpaper behind the bed
  • wallpaper the ceiling with the same print as behind the bed
  • replace the ceiling fan
  • make new drapes and hang them flush with the trim on a new gold curtain rod
  • make new pillows and a matching bench cover with an accent fabric
  • replace the nightstands with 2 nightstands that are wider and taller
  • paint the walls white
  • paint the tray ceiling white
  • replace the lamps with new gold lamps to match the drapery rods
  • replace the bedding

And now the obligatory “before” picture….

DREADFUL!!!!!!!!  See what I mean by “dark cave”?!?

I hope you will follow me over the next 6 weeks as I transform our master bedroom from a very dark cave with chipped up old furniture to a lovely, neutral oasis!   Meet me back here every Thursday as I update you on my progress with pictures, sources, and a DIY or two!

  1. I will be following along so closely! Our bedroom is laid out the same way and like you has been terribly neglected. I’m hoping once I get the closet done I’ll get some inspiration for the bedroom.

Can’t wait to see your progress next week. Headed to see what you did in the Spring!

  2. Hey fellow bedroom renovater! I’m so excited to see that gorgeous wallpaper on the ceiling! Love those prints and the gold accents. Can’t wait to see how it all turns out!

    1. Hey Nicole! Thank you so much for following along! I hope it turns out the way I’m thinking it will. I’m already antsy for the reveal!

  3. The ceiling is fabulous! I’ll be doing a cheaper DIY version on my bedroom:-) Love the wallpaper too. I’ll check back to see progress.
