Laundry Room Ideas – My Original Design Plan
First, I always like to start with a design board to give myself a definitive direction to work in. My original design plan for this room was to order everything from a big box store and just get it all done with one click. This is what I came up with…
This plan included new drapery rod, sheers, roman shade, rug, paint, storage baskets, laundry hamper, and light fixture |
Design Budget
Then, I added up what this design board was going to cost me….
The Before
SO EMBARRASING!!! I CANT BELIVE I’M EVEN SHOWING YOU THIS!!!! |
HOW DID I EVER LET IT GET LIKE THIS??? |
Obviously, all of the tupperware “rejects” were being used in the laundry room! I’m pretty sure that pink bin is from my college dorm! |
The After
“Guide To Procedures Modern” print – 16 x 20 size. (more color options available)
This particular print is white with pewter text. I thought it was PERFECT for this window against the new gray paint color.
Laundry Room Ideas – The Design
Our laundry room is very small and there is not a lot of extra space. On the right wall, my husband installed a row of shelves and a corner cabinet, both from Lowe’s that I plan to keep. Both of these storage systems are a dark wood color, except the storage cabinet has a light wooden top. I tried to tie the dark and light wood together by using light hyacinth/ seagrass baskets. The best deal for hyacinth baskets of various sizes is on Amazon, sold in a 3 pack of various sizes

Additionally, I LOVE that this basket has a lid because I keep our hand held vacuum in there while it’s charging! To hide the chord thread it out the back of the lid and drape the wires down behind the cabinet so you can’t see them The vacuum was super ugly and took up so much awkward space (refer back to “Before” picture) Now you don’t even know it’s there! |
Basket Labels
I made these labels out of chalkboard tags I found at Hobby Lobby for 50% off of $2.99! I used a chalk pen ($2.99) and this tracing sheet I found on Pinterest to write the letters… |
not perfect, but atleast I didn’t have to bother my friend to do more signs for me!!! And yes we have enough “bug killers” to fill an entire basket. (i.e. salt shooter, electric tennis racket/fly swatter, and then some good ole’ fashion plastic fly swatters) |
I’ve had this small white rolling cart for years and love using it to hold little things that I don’t have room for in the baskets above. We also already owned this dark wicker basket (hand me down from my mother in law) so I decided to keep it to once again try and pull together the dark and light wood. It’s great for dirty kitchen rags and labeled it with a chalkboard label as well. I love the chalkboard look with this antique iron I found at my favorite consignment store! (Patina Interiors)!! |

DIY Laundry Room Makeover Cost Breakdown
Even if I were to purchase the ADORABLE wall prints from Lettered & Lined, (16×20-$42 & 2, 8×10’s-$36) I would have still been under budget!!!
