Hello everyone!
Some of you may already know if you’ve been following along but incase you haven’t heard, we are expecting a new bundle of joy in August of this year!!!
Yup another little one will be added to the mix at the end of the HOT HOT southern summer and we can’t wait!
A few weeks ago we did a gender reveal party that was a lot of fun and I wanted to share some of the details with you today…
So we do not live in the same town as any of our family members. In fact, between the 2 of us, our families are pretty spread out. So we wanted to come up with a way that we could do a gender reveal and allow everyone to be involved without anyone having to travel. Some friends of ours own the Great American Cookie Company in town and we were brain storming over at their house the other day about ideas for how to reveal the gender of the baby and do it in a way that our son could be involved. It was really important to us to let him feel apart of the reveal in order to get him excited about having a sibling. Our friends mentioned that their company makes a cookie cake specifically for gender reveals and when I heard all about this cake, I couldn’t pass it up…
It’s a delicious round cookie cake with a hole cut into it and a cookie placed over the hole, covering a certain color icing inside. The morning of the reveal we went to the doctors office for our ultra sound and I had the tech write down the gender in an envelope. I then took the envelope to Great American Cookie and had them fill the hole in the cake with the appropriate coloring icing (pink or blue) to match the gender of our baby. The entire process was very quick and easy and you could not see the icing inside, so even if I wanted to cheat and peek, I couldn’t! The plan was to let our son smash the cookie down into the hole and all find out the sex of the baby after seeing what color icing came out.
During nap time I decorated our kitchen nook with pink and blue decor, mostly found at the Dollar Tree, and then waited very patiently for my husband to get home from work. I was a ball of nerves all day waiting in anticipation….
So the afternoon rolls around and my husband comes home from work. We had informed our families before hand on the details of the cake and how we would reveal the gender and invited them to watch the reveal on Instagram using the “Instagram Live” feature. We figured this was the easiest way for everyone to see it at the same time without having a million phones/Facetimes going all at the same time. Gotta love technology! So, everyone tuned in at 5 o’clock sharp and we all sat down around the table to find out the sex of our new baby. Before I show you the amazing pictures, I have to mention that having a photographer there to photograph the event was the most amazing blessing. Sarah Alleman captured every expression and emotion from that day in real time and that is something I would have never gotten to see again without her being there! I seriously cannot explain to you how thankful I am to have these pictures as memories to look back on. The utter shock, joy, excitement, fear, apprehension, and love that we felt that day are accurately dipicted in these photographs and that is something you just can’t put a price on…
This was us making sure everyone was tuned in and my husband showing a closeup of the cake.
We used an iPad to record the Instagram Live video and propped it up on a paper towel holder LOL!
I told you she got EVERY last detail! How cool will it be to look back 20 years from now and say “OMG look at that old thing! I think it was called an iPad?!?”
And the moment of truth….
IT’S A GIRL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WOW, a GIRL?!?!?! Judging by our reactions you can tell we totally thought it was going to be a boy. I even had all of the boy stuff out of boxes and sprawled out on the floor ready to wash that night! This is a prime example of “we make plans and God laughs”.
So now all that’s left to do is decorate!!! On to the nursery planning….
A big thank you to Great American Cookie for the gender reveal cake and to Sarah Alleman for photographing this exciting time in our life! If you are local you can follow Great American’s new store on Instagram if you live on the Northshore.
If you are looking to have a gender reveal party or need a gender reveal idea that the whole family can be a part of, I highly recommend this cake and hiring a photographer to capture the moment for you. You will not regret having these memories to look back on! And the great news is,
SARA HALLEMAN PHOTOGRAPHY TRAVELS ANYWHERE!!!

Well that’s it for now. I’ll be back soon with some nursery decor ideas.
