Bathroom Storage

As I continue my attempt to get us organized for the new year, I decided to tackle our master bathroom storage issues!  Well, I didn’t decide, the baby decided!  Now that he is into absolutely everything, we cannot have shelves that are low (no matter what we put on them) or anything that can be pulled over easily (like small side tables or floor lamps). So that means the shelf that I built for our bathroom towels and accessories had to go!  I was kind of bummed to get rid of it at first because this shelf was the first piece of furniture I ever built totally by myself.  At some point I will do a tutorial about how I built it.  For now, here is a picture and a brief summary of the directions below….

 

 

 

 

So here is the super condensed version of how I made this shelf….
First, I bought 8 two by fours and some flat boards for the shelves.  (i don’t have any of the measurements but I made them up myself according to what I needed in the space) Then, I attached 2 two by fours together at right angles using L brackets and screws and used those as the corners.  Next, I measured the inside corners of the 4 posts (posts=2 two by fours put together in each corner) and made a notch in each of the 4 corners of the shelves/boards in order to create space for the shelves to fit inside.  Finally, I attached these shelves/boards to the corner posts using L brackets underneath each shelf/board.  After I finished building the shelf, I painted it with 1 coat of Sherman Williams Feather Gray (only because it was left over in our garage from our last house) and then went over that with a wash (equal parts paint and water) of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in French Linen.    *side note, I do not ever use ASCP to paint raw wood.  I always use a base coat of regular house paint to coat the wood first.  ASCP is too thick and will soak in to raw wood, wasting half of your paint!
And that is literally it!  Very primitive, easy, and inexpensive!
I will be back later to share with you how I organized our bathroom and replaced this shelf in a more baby safe way.
