I’ll be honest, when I first noticed that acrylic/lucite furniture was coming back in style, I turned my nose up, big time! I thought it looked really cheap.

However, after a few months of seeing it on repeat, literally every time I opened one of my favorite home magazines or scrolled through Pinterest, it grew on me. Now I own 3 pieces in my home and I can’t wait to add more….

You may remember that set of acrylic bookshelves I installed in my daughter’s nursery last summer. I found them on Amazon and could not be more pleased with how they look on her “book wall”. I needed something functional to hold all of her books, but didn’t want to cover up any more of her pretty pink walls. A clear, acrylic look was the way to go because I could use large enough shelves to hold atleast 15 books but not overtake that wall with something too busy.

After installing the bookshelves, I didn’t stop there. I also needed a very low profile end table to go next to the glider/rocker. I went back to all of my favorite stores, but this time with a more open mind. That’s when I found this adorable acrylic table ….

This table came from Hobby Lobby on clearance last summer but they no longer sell it. So, I linked one that looks almost the exact same here from Amazon.

Then after purchasing my second piece of acrylic decor, I felt like I was just getting started. I was now obsessed with my two new pieces of acrylic home decor and it suddenly felt like I had been missing out on an awesome little secret! That’s when I took the plunge and bought my third piece. THIS….

I needed something that once again had a low profile, didn’t compete with other decor in my house, and was multi-purposeful. My intention in purchasing this bar cart was to be able to use it outside on our back patio while hosting guests and have it double as a storage cart for my beads while not in use as a bar cart. I am once again obsessed with this piece of acrylic decor. It came put together and is so low profile because its clear, that I forget it’s even there sometimes!

So basically my whole perception of acrylic furniture and decor has completely changed.

What I’ve Learned About Loving Acrylic Furniture…

Used correctly, it is GORGEOUS!!! You just have to pair it with the right accessories (books, flowers, frames, vases) to make even the cheapest piece look elegant and expensive.
As long as it doesn’t have a yellow tint to it, its not going to look cheap. Before purchasing, examine the pictures online or the piece in person to make sure the piece looks completely clear. Remove all of the protective film off of all surfaces to ensure that the piece is as clear as possible.
Consider acrylic furniture and decor when you need something functional for a crowded or small space. For example, having a clear table is the best way to provide something functional for the room that doesn’t clutter the space and overload the eyes.
“Acrylic” decor is almost always going to be cheaper in price than “lucite”, so if you are on a budget, steer clear of “lucite” in the description and look for acrylic!

So, if you’ve been on an endless search for that perfect end table, set of bar stools, sofa table, trunk, desk chair, coffee table, book shelf, curtain rod, or lamp and are about to give up….. Consider acrylic!!! Used correctly, I promise it won’t look cheap.
