Christmas mantel decor is a great way to make a statement in your living room and get your family in the mood for the holiday season! Drape your mantle in beautiful greenery and holiday decor to celebrate the most wonderful time of the year!
Christmas mantel decor is the first thing I pull out of my holiday decor boxes when decorating for Christmas! To see some of my Christmas mantel designs from years passed, click here, here, and here. I love having a beautifully decorated mantel covered in Christmas greenery to gaze at while sitting by the fire with a cup of hot chocolate. Christmas time is my absolute favorite, can you tell?!?!
This year I partnered with JOANN to show you how to make your own DIY flocked mantel garland.
MATERIALS TO MAKE DIY FLOCKED CHRISTMAS MANTEL GARLAND
- 3-5 strands of holiday garland. This is the garland I used for the picture above. There are more garland choices at JOANN
- scissors
- 11 pushpins or 3M hooks
- 1-2 cans of Snow Blower flocking spray, depending on how snowy you want your garland to look
STEPS
- First, cut 3 of your holiday garland strands into sections of different lengths. For example, I did 3 long, 4 medium, & 5 short
- Second, secure the longest 3 pieces to the center and outsides of your mantle using pushpins or 3M hooks. For example, see pictures below.
- Third, secure the medium pieces to your mantel using push pins in a pattern within the inside space left between the 2 longest outer pieces. For example, see pictures below.
- Fourth, secure the short pieces to your mantle using push pins in the spaces remaining.
- Fifth, place the remaining long strands of garland that you did not cut (1-2 depending on how many you purchased and how big your mantel is) on top of your mantle to hide the pushpins
- Next, spray the garland with 1-2 cans of “Snow Blower” flocking spray, depending on how snowy you want your garland to look. For best results, stand within 4 inches of the garland you are spraying. It makes such a pretty, snowy look on faux greenery and even comes out of the can cold like real snow….
- Lastly, add your favorite Christmas ornaments and decor around the newly hung garland to complete your beautiful mantel for the holidays!
In addition, JOANN also has some beautiful ornaments, floral sprays, wreaths, and ribbons that I found to create a little Christmas vignette in front of our fireplace….
