Tips For Holiday Decorating

Hello lovelys!
If you’ve been following me on Instagram you already know that Christmas decorating is in full swing at our house. I decorated early last year for the first time, beginning right after Halloween, and was able to enjoy the holidays so much more because I could cross the decorating “to-dos” off my list! I am determined this year to slow down our pace and thoroughly enjoy the holidays!
So while I was unpacking our Christmas decor, 2 holiday decorating tips came to mind that I wanted to share with you today. If you saw these in my Insta stories, well then I’m sorry you might be bored with this post….
HOLIDA DECORATING TIP # 1 – Stuff Your Stockings
Have you ever noticed that when you’re looking through a Christmas catalogue such as Ballard Designs or Pottery Barn, the stockings always look so perfectly full, non-wrinkly, and seem to hang just the right way? Then when you get them home they are a flat, wrinkly mess when you hang them up on your own mantel!?! Well I have a little trick to achieve that Christmas catalogue look….
STUFF YOUR STOCKINGS UNTIL SANTA STUFFS THEM FOR YOU!!
I use leftover packing material from my Amazon shipments that look like this…
First, I tear them apart on the perforated lines into single packs….
Then I start filling each stocking with as many of these packets as possible, making sure to get the first one all the way down to the toe of the stocking and the last one at the very brim of the trim so as not to be seen from the outside like this…
When I’m finished, my stockings look like this….
As opposed to this….
Here is a picture of the “Before” and “After” right next to each other so you can easily see the difference…
See?!? Much better right!?!
If you don’t have any leftover packing material for the stuffing, don’t go out and buy any! Just use what you have around your house…i.e. plastic grocery bags, newspaper, bubble wrap, tissue paper, fabric, hand towels, etc.
HOLIDAY DECORATING TIP # 2- Use Fishing Line to Tie Ornaments Together In Clusters
Every Christmas I try to use my same decor in different ways. I like to change my mantel up from year to year just to keep it interesting!
One way to add something new to your Christmas decorations but still use what you already have is to take some simple, inexpensive ball ornaments and tie them together in a cluster (as seen in the picture above) with clear fishing line. I’ll show you what I mean…
Tying the ornaments together enables you to arrange them in a pretty little cluster without having to worry they will roll off your table, mantel, or whatever surface you are using.
The possibilities are endless when using a simple ball ornament because you can get really creative with your color combination and finishes. For example, multi-color, glossy, pearl, glitter, etc!
I’ve linked several different ball ornaments below and fishing line for easy online shopping…
