This summer, we embarked on an unforgettable trip to the vibrant city of Boston. From its rich history to its delicious food, Boston has a lot to offer for families traveling with children. I created a guide below of our adventures with highlights of all the incredible places we visited.
1. Fenway Park
Our journey began with a tour of Fenway Park, home of the Boston Red Sox and the oldest Major League Baseball stadium still in use. Walking through the stands and learning about its storied history was a thrilling experience, even for those in our group who aren’t die-hard baseball fans.
2. Quincy Market
Next, we strolled through Quincy Market, an iconic Boston landmark that pulses with life and energy. This historic marketplace, part of the larger Faneuil Hall Marketplace, is a vibrant hub where the old meets the new, featuring a diverse array of shops, restaurants, and street performers that captivate both locals and visitors alike.
As we wandered through the market’s brick-paved corridors, the air was filled with the most amazing smells of international cuisine wafting from the numerous food stalls. From fresh seafood and classic clam chowder to gourmet donuts and artisanal chocolates, Quincy Market truly offers something for every palate. It’s the perfect place to grab a bite to eat, whether you’re in the mood for a quick snack or a leisurely meal.
We were especially intrigued by the quirky offerings, like the corndog covered in Fruity Pebbles—a unique twist on a classic fair food that perfectly embodies the playful spirit of this bustling marketplace. As we indulged, we couldn’t help but watch the lively street performers nearby, their music and acrobatics adding to the vibrant atmosphere. The blend of entertainment and culinary delights makes Quincy Market a feast for the senses, inviting everyone to immerse themselves in the fun. Whether you’re hunting for a memorable souvenir, enjoying a meal, or simply soaking in the energetic vibe, Quincy Market is a must-visit destination in Boston.
3. Duck Boat Tour
One of the highlights of our trip was the Duck Boat Tour, which took us on a fascinating amphibious adventure around Boston. These iconic WWII-style vehicles provided a fun and unique way to explore the city. We cruised by historic sites like the Boston Common, the State House, and the bustling streets of the North End, learning about the rich history and culture of the area from our enthusiastic guide. Our tour guide’s narrative was filled with entertaining anecdotes and fun facts that kept us engaged throughout the ride.
The true magic of the tour, however, came when we plunged into the Charles River. As we bobbed along the water, we were treated to a stunning panoramic view of Boston’s skyline, the beautiful bridges, and the serene surroundings. The transition from land to water added an element of surprise and excitement, making for a memorable experience.
That said, while the Duck Boat Tour certainly offers a fun way to see the city, I would recommend it primarily for families with children. The playful nature of the tour, complete with quacking along to songs and engaging interactions, seems to resonate more with younger audiences. For adult travelers or those seeking a more in-depth exploration of Boston’s history, other options may provide a more enriching experience. Nonetheless, for families, it’s an entertaining adventure that showcases Boston from a unique perspective! Our kids loved it and will always have this tour as a core memory!
4. Freedom Trail
Following the red-brick Freedom Trail, we immersed ourselves in American history. At the North Church, we learned about Paul Revere’s midnight ride and saw where he signaled the coming of the British troops. Nearby, Paul Revere’s House and his final resting place in the Old Granary Burying Ground provided poignant glimpses into colonial life.
5. Boston Cemeteries
Boston’s cemeteries are a fascinating blend of history and architecture, making them unique tourist attractions. One of the most notable is the Granary Burying Ground, where you can find the tombstone of Samuel Adams, a key figure in the American Revolution. This cemetery is not only the final resting place of Adams but also of other prominent historical figures like Paul Revere and John Hancock. The intricate headstones, some dating back to the 17th century, along with the serene atmosphere, create a captivating experience for visitors. Exploring these grounds offers a glimpse into Boston’s rich past, making it a must-visit for history enthusiasts and curious travelers alike.
6. Boston Public Library
A visit to the Boston Public Library offered a peaceful retreat amidst our sightseeing. The architecture of the McKim Building and its grand interiors were a testament to Boston’s commitment to culture and learning.
7. Prudential Building Skywalk
For a breathtaking view of the city, we ascended to the top floor of the Prudential Building’s Skywalk. From this vantage point, Boston’s skyline stretched before us, showcasing its blend of historic landmarks and modern skyscrapers. Once up there, we enjoyed a delicious cocktail on the outer deck while taking in the most incredible view of every building for miles!
8. Shopping and Dining
Of course, no trip is complete without some shopping and indulging in local cuisine. Boston exceeded our expectations with its plethora of shops and countless dining options. From seafood at waterfront restaurants to Italian cuisine in the North End, each meal was a culinary delight.

Boston’s diverse culinary scene truly impressed us with its quality and variety. From seafood by the harbor to Italian delights in the North End and quirky snacks at Quincy Market, each meal was a delightful discovery. Combined with Boston’s historical charm, ease of navigation, and friendly locals, our trip was nothing short of spectacular. We’re already looking forward to returning to this dynamic city to explore even more of its treasures.
During our trip, we stayed at the Hilton Park Plaza Hotel. While it provided convenient accommodations near many attractions, I must admit it wasn’t the most impressive four-star hotel I’ve experienced. Although it served its purpose for proximity and convenience, I wouldn’t recommend it based solely on its hotel merits. For those prioritizing convenience and location, it’s a viable option; however, for a more memorable and luxurious stay, I believe investing in other hotels across Boston would offer better value and amenities. See a list of other hotel options below.
Our time in Boston left an indelible mark on us. Beyond its historic charm and picturesque landscapes, Boston impressed us with its ease of navigation and the warmth of its people. Whether walking the Freedom Trail or strolling the city streets, we found Bostonians to be welcoming and proud of their city’s heritage.
The culinary scene was another highlight, offering a diverse array of flavors that satisfied every palate. From food trucks to fine dining, Boston’s restaurants showcased the city’s culinary prowess and made each meal a memorable experience.
